Want to pursue MBA from B-schools in Karnataka? Then you will have to appear for the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET). Apart from MBA, you can also study M. Tech, ME, MCA and M. Arch courses. This article will talk at length about the eligibility criteria and the process of applying for the PGCET MBA course.

PGCET is the standardized state level MBA entrance examination which is conducted once in a year for those who want to study MBA within the state. This exam helps in determining the eligibility of candidates for full-time MBA program in Private and Government Institutes in Karnataka.

The eligibility criteria for PGCET full-time MBA is as mentioned below:

1. The candidate should have completed bachelor’s degree from a recognized board or should have passed any other equivalent examination.

2. The candidate should have obtained an aggregate of 50% or more during all the years of the degree course.

3. For the candidates under reserved category such as SC, ST; the minimum marks should be 45% in the qualifying exam.

The eligibility criteria for PGCET part-time MBA is almost the same like above but only the additional criteria here is that the candidate should have work experience of a minimum of 3 years.

How to apply for PGCET 2017?

The application process for PGCET is only limited to the online mode. In order to fill up the form; you will need to follow the below-mentioned process:

1. Go to the website and click on ‘PGCET Online Application’

2. Then register yourself by entering all the necessary information in the candidate registration form and click on submit

3. You will then receive an Application number and user id with which you can log in

4. Once the login is done in the right way, you will need to complete all the information and click on the save button

5. Now, you will need to upload a scanned image, left-hand thumb impression, signature, and parent’s signature. Then Save and click on next

6. Now, you will have to take out a printout of the application form

7. Pay the fee in any of the branches of specified banks.

8. And, finally, you will need to download the application form copy and get the Principal’s seal and signature

You should retain the printouts of the application form, a copy of the fee payment receipt and copies of the photo ID uploaded on the online application for your future reference even after the application form is completed.

PGCET exam is conducted in an offline mode. This is an objective type pen paper test. Within 2 hours’ time, the candidate is expected to answer 100 questions. The best part of this exam is that there is no negative marking. Each question has 4 different options and each question carries one mark. The exam consists of four sections and each carries 25 marks. The sections include English language, general knowledge, test of reasoning and general intelligence and quantitative analysis.

Once the PGCET MBA exam result is declared, the counselling process starts for allotment of seats in the B-schools affiliated to Universities in Karnataka. Candidates can check their results from the official website of Karnataka Examination Authority. The merit list is prepared and published on the basis of marks scored in the entrance examination. Candidates who meet the requisite marks are allowed to participate in the counselling round.

So, if you are interested in doing a full-time or part-time postgraduate course from a government, private aided or private unaided educational institution within Karnataka; then you should apply for the PGCET exam.
