Private sector and public sector are two of the most common options for candidates looking for bank jobs. Here, we will discuss the main differences between private and public sector bank jobs

Introduction

If you are preparing for a bank recruitment exam or looking forward to join a bank after your graduation / post-graduation, you can find some helpful tips here. Banking sector is currently one of the most promising factors from career point of view. Young graduates who want to make a successful career in finance, marketing or banking sector, can join a bank as a first step.

For bank jobs seekers, there are basically two options. They can either join a private bank like HDFC or can go for a public sector bank like SBI. The benefits and terms associated with each banking sector are different. Here are a few points you can consider while choosing between a public sector and private sector bank.

Public Bank Jobs or Private Bank Jobs

Working Environment: Working environment in a private bank is usually better than that in a public sector bank. In a private bank, focus is usually on the growth and profit and therefore, all of their employees work towards a single goal.

Learning opportunities: Public sector banks give good learning opportunities and training to their employees to make sure that they are good in their work. Private Banks offer extra opportunities to employees who want to learn more and want to grow.

Career growth: Public sector bank employees are given promotion after a certain time period, which is not usually based on the knowledge or performance of the employees. In private banks, your performance and talent are the basic measure of your growth and increment.

Job roles: Public sector banks are bigger and better than a private sector bank that is why they have better and bigger job roles for their employees. In public sector banks, job roles are many but you will get a better job only based on your experience, not your talent. Private sector banks may have less job roles but you can easily get a better job role if you are talented enough.

Recruitment Process: Private Banks usually hire their employees through campus placement programs or personal interview. Public sector banks usually recruit via common written examination (CWE) or other bank recruitment exams. You can find details at Bank Jobs 2015. The selection process in the public sector banks is tougher than private banks.

Pay and benefits: Public sector banks offer good initial salary, but the growth is slow and depends on your experience. Other benefits and security are higher in public sector banks. Private banks will offer you good salary with better promotion opportunities.
